Fern Wilson, 98, of Alliance, Ohio and Marco Island, Florida, died peacefully in her sleep on March 23, 2018 at her home on Fairview Place in Alliance. Born February 16, 1920 in Fremont, Ohio, she moved to Alliance when she was 5, attended State Street School and Alliance High School, graduating in 1938, the year that she married Elvin J. Wilson.
Fern was initially a homemaker in Alliance, raising two sons, and later joined with her husband, Elvin, in the ownership and operation of the Jarmen Printing Company, starting in 1976. She managed the books and operated one of the first digital type setting machines in the area. She traveled to Marco Island, Florida nearly every winter where she was a member of the Hideaway Beach Golf Club. She enjoyed boating, shelling, and, especially golfing. Also a long time member of the Alliance Country Club, her golfing efforts included four holes in one, two in Ohio and two in Florida. Fern was also a member of the Alliance Women's Club.
Her final years were enhanced by the efforts of excellent local caregivers; Freda Kramer, Lovina Adams, and Judy Honeycutt. The Alliance Community Hospital hospice unit was of great assistance during her final weeks and, over her last years Eileen Whitehair provided much support and assistance.
Survivors include her two sons, Gary Lee Wilson of Los Angeles and
Hugh Daniel (Toni Favazzo) Wilson of College Station, TX; grandsons Quentin Fairall Wilson, Portland, OR, Gary Hale Thornhill Wilson, Los Angeles, Derek Moody (Christen) Wilson, with children Trinity Walker Lewis, Tate Easton Wilson and Truman Olen Moody Wilson, Dallas TX, and Christopher Donaldson (Ginger) Wilson, with children Christopher Derek Wilson and Lily Maddalyn, Weston, CT.
She is predeceased by her parents, Mervin Donaldson and Mabel Fairall of Alliance, her late husband of 51 years, Elvin J. Wilson, and four sisters, Isabel (Weimer), Dorothy (Elliot), Marion (Jones), and Lois (Markel).
Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Union Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. Coralee Cox officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Interment will follow at Mt. Union Cemetery.
