Ferne M. Riffle-Phillips, age 76 of Alliance, died at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday June 3, 2003 at Alliance Community Hospital, following a brief illness.
Ferne was born in South Bend, Indiana on November 25, 1926. She was one of three daughters and a son of Wayne and Valentina (Oswalt) Seevers. She resided in the Alliance area most of her life. She graduated from Alliance High School and attended Marion College in Indiana. She was employed as a bookkeeper at United Die and Manufacturing Company, retiring in 1990.
Ferne was a member of the Alliance Evangelical Friends Church, where she sang in the choir and was very active in church activities. She was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class, and Past President and Treasurer of the Women's Missionary Fellowship. She was currently the Reading Clerk of the Congregational Business Meetings.
She was also a Past President and Treasurer of the Alliance Community Hospital Auxiliary, and had volunteered in excess of 3000 hours.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Phillips, of Alliance one son Steve Betz, currently residing in Saudi Arabia, one grandson Mike Betz of Minneapolis, Minnesota, one granddaughter Sarah Betz, a senior at Western Michigan University, one step-daughter Janice Glaspell of Alliance, one step-grandson Ryan Glaspell, and one step-granddaughter Andrea Glaspell, both of Alliance; one sister Loma Roudebush Monnot of Alliance, and one brother Dale W. Seevers, of Alliance.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Clifford D. Betz, and Harold S. Riffle, one son Douglas Betz on April 15, 1968 and one sister Jean Vrzak on Nov. 11, 1970.
Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
