Floren C. Courtney age 89, of Limaville, formerly of Sebring, passed away Friday, December 10, 2010 at 8:15 p.m. at Community Care Center after an 8 month illness.
He was born December 5, 1921, in Montpelier, Ohio, to Herbert and Emma (Sanderson) Courtney.
Mr. Courtney graduated in 1941 from Sebring McKinley High School and retired as a foreman after working for 42 years at the Genie Company (former Alliance Manufacturing).
A U.S. Army WWII Veteran, Floren served in Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland Central Europe. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 along with his four brothers.
A loving and caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be missed for his jokes and sense of humor.
Floren was an avid sports fan, attending Alliance and Sebring High School football and basketball games and Mount Union football games. He loved to watch his grandchildren play Hot Stove League baseball and he was President of the Sebring Hot Stove from 1961-1962.
He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, driving his car on vacations and rides around the local backroads. He met his buddies at McDonald's for morning coffee after his walk at Carnation Mall. He was well known face to the Alliance Community Hospital greeters and cafeteria girls as he ate his dinner there most evenings. He was a lifelong member of the Sebring VFW.
Floren is survived by his children, Susan Courtney (Greg) Donohoe of Alliance, and Gale (Shirlee) Courtney of North Olmsted; grandchildren, Ryan and Colby Donohoe, both of Alliance, and Nathan Courtney of Lakewood, and great-grandson, Cameron Lee Donohoe, of Alliance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, fraternal twin brother, Floyd Courtney, identical twins, Ronald and Donald, and Robert "Bob" Courtney, whom he traveled with out west and on many other excursions.
The family will receive visitors from 4:30-6:30 Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. officiated by Pastor Joe Peters, with military honors to follow.
