Florence A. Penturf, age 92, of Sebring, formerly of Alliance, died at 6 a.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Crandall Medical Center.
She was born July 22, 1919, in Alliance, to William A. and Lillian (Anderson) Byers.
Florence, a graduate of Alliance High School and Kent State University, taught school for 32 years at the former Fairmount Children's Home, where she was principal for the last two years there. She also taught at Washington Elementary School and Marlington Middle School, before retiring in 1975.
She was a member of the Union Avenue United Methodist Church, AARP, Alliance Retired Teachers, Ohio Retired Teachers, Alliance Senior Citizens and Beechwood Pioneers.
Florence is survived by nieces, Susan Potts, Darla Davis, Janet Frank, Lori Pasch, Linda Stammen, Cherrie Carruthers, Debbie Shrake; and nephews, Barry Penturf and Chris Penturf.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Roy E. Penturf, whom she married June 4, 1943 and who died November 16, 1990; and sister, Helen (Byers) Hodge.
Services will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. David Andrews officiating. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Beechwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Union Avenue United Methodist Church, 1843 S. Union Ave., Alliance, Ohio 44601.
