Frank K. Bolog, age 96, of Alliance, passed away at 10:50 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2015, at Crandall Medical Center.
He was born in Alliance, Ohio, May 1, 1919, to Frank K. Sr. and Ann (Frank) Bolog.
Frank attended Alliance High School and chose to quit to work at 3C Camps to help his family.
In 1942 he started and was owner of the former Zone Cab Company, later purchasing Yellow Cab Co., Metro Cab Co., and Alliance Cab Co., and ran city buses for both Alliance and Massillon. He started M&M Motor Transit in 1965, Carnation Charter Coach in 1976, and in 1978 purchased A&M Transit Lines from the Alexander family. He retired in 1995, when he turned the business over to his son, Frank "Buddy" Bolog. He continued to stay active as an adviser.
Frank made a daily practice of coming into the office to talk to employees and former clients and spent many days sitting at his former office. He would open mail and visit with friends who would come in to visit him.
An avid sports fan, Frank played softball until he was 50, sponsoring many softball teams, and bowled for 60 years, including 44 years in numerous national tournaments. He also played with the Dante Club Athletics.
Frank served as president of the former Alliance Exchange Club and was instrumental in installing the Freedom Shrine and served on the board of directors for Ohio Bus Association and Ohio Taxi Association. He was also a member of both Alliance and Canton Chambers of Commerce, American Taxi Cab Association, United Bus Association, American Bus Association and William Penn, Christopher Columbus, and Dante Clubs and the American Legion in Alliance.
He served in the National Guard during World War II.
He and his late wife, Betty, were honored by the Carnation Festival Board as recipients of the 2012 Grand Marshall Parade Award.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia Schaefer of Alliance; son, Frank A. "Buddy" Bolog of Alliance; six grandchildren, Tommy Schaefer, Stefani Schaefer, Sarah Elizabeth Bolog (James) Hoynes, Ann Marie Bolog (Qaisar) Bari, Frank "Ben" Bolog and Brad Allan Bolog; five great-grandchildren, Race, Siena Bella, Vivian Elizabeth, Holden James and Ashar Alzaal; step-great granddaughter, Yasmeen Mano; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ann; wife, Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Carli) Bolog whom he married June 24, 1940, and who passed away one month before their 74th anniversary on May 2, 2014; and siblings Jim Bolog, Ann Bolog Marzetti, Mary Bolog Stanich, John Bolog, and Andy Bolog.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Monsignor James Kolp officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
