Frederick James Hunter, age 90 of Alliance, died at 2 p.m. May 6, 2004 at White Oak Nursing Home in Canton.
He was born January 1, 1914 in Alliance, Ohio to Francis E. and Edith (Kayler) Hunter and was a lifelong Alliance resident.
Mr. Hunter graduated in 1933 from Alliance High School, and in 1942 received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Ohio State University. In 1950, he received his Master of Science, specializing in Horticulture and in 1962, received his Bachelor of Science in Education, both from Ohio State University.
He worked for several years in greenhouses in Painesville and Brecksville, before being employed at Lamborn Floral Company in Alliance as a rose grower and foreman for eighteen years.
Mr. Hunter then taught science for twenty years at State Street School in Alliance. After retiring, he volunteered as a Docent at the Wilderness Center in Wilmot, taking elementary children on tours. He also volunteered as a courier at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church since 1925.
Survivors include one sister, Margaret Reisch of Sebring, three brothers; Robert Hunter of Alliance, William Hunter of Euclid and F. Edmund Hunter of Kirkwood, Missouri, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Hugh Hookway officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
