G. Duane Baker

G. Duane Baker age 83, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away at 4:44 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Tampa General Hospital.
He was born March 5, 1933, in Alliance, Ohio, to Glenn and Mabel (Duncan) Baker.
Glenn and his wife, Janice (Reed) Baker moved to Lakeland, Florida, in August of 2015 with their daughter, Kelley M. Baker.
He was a 1950 graduate of Alliance High School and took classes at Stark State College. He married his high school sweetheart of four years, Janice (Reed) Baker whom he met at the Prom, and had a long happy life together.
He was called to active duty to the Russian/German border in Fulda, on the famous GAP. He was with the 14th Armored Cavalry Division and in the Tank Division and served there for two years.
Duane was a bricklayer and had his own company for a while. He grew tired of the brick trade and joined the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement.
His hobby was genealogy and he wrote a book on "The Baker Family from British Subject to Patriotic America. He enjoyed researching and traveling to all the past homes they lived in from 1650 to 2016.
Glenn was a member of the "Sons of the Revolution" and found some of the homes and graves. He was also a 44 year member of the Elks, a member of the VFW and the Eagle Club.
Along with his wife of 63 years, Janice, Glenn is survived by his daughter, Kelley M. Baker; son, Robin T. Baker; daughter-in-law, Jovita A. Baker; sister, Glenna 'Susie' (Warner) Zingg; brother, James N. Baker; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Duane D. Baker; daughter-in-law, Kenna J. Baker; brother, Edwin G. Baker; and sister-in-law, Loma Jean Baker.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 31, 2016, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with his niece, Pastor Penny Magee, officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
