Gail M. Winters

Gail M. Winters, age 82, of Canton, Ohio, longtime resident of Alliance, died on Wednesday, June 14th, 2023 at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.  In testament to the man he was in life, he was surrounded by friends and family at the time of his passing.

Gail was born on March 28, 1941 to Valas and Marvilla (Morton) Winters of North Benton, Ohio.  He graduated from Sebring High School in 1960, after which he was drafted into the Army.  Following an honorable discharge, he enjoyed a long career operating equipment, retiring from Thomas Asphalt in 2003.  He was a 50 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers.  Gail married Marjorie J. (Childs) Winters on April 16, 1966.  She preceded him in death.

Gail was a lifelong, faithful member of North Benton Presbyterian Church.  Gail was also a member of the Alliance Elks Lodge, serving to uplift local children, veterans and the community at large.  He lived his life in service to his family and any others he found in need.  Gail enjoyed watching his family grow, helping them succeed in life, and he always looked forward to weekly poker games with his brothers.

Gail is survived by his three children, Mark Winters of Canton, Valas (Amy) Winters of Green, and Elizabeth Lewis of Canton; his seven grandchildren, Jessica, Adam, Sean, Abby, Nathan, Brody and Ava; six great grandchildren, Nora, Brant, Audrianna, Alivia, Michael and Aliyah; two brothers, Valas M. (Emily) Winters and Eugene (Joyce) Winters; close friends Paula Clark and Randy Stevens; and scores of nieces and nephews, all of whom meant the world to him.

Gail was preceded in death by his three sisters, June Locker, Jane Miller and Virginia Gaines.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday June 24th, 2023 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, with Rev. Herb Goetz of North Benton Presbyterian Church officiating.  Friends may call on Friday, June 23rd, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  He will be laid to rest at Highland Memorial Park.
