Gary R. Kirk, Sr

Gary R. Kirk Sr., age 75, of Alliance, died at 10:20 p.m. May 28, 2007 at his home.
He was born Dec. 13, 1931 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to Cary Oral and Agnes (Milliman) Kirk and was a resident of Alliance since 1959.
Mr. Kirk received his Teaching Certificate from Burlington Iowa Jr. College and taught for two years at Sherman School, a one-room school house, teaching grades one through eight.
After moving to Alliance, he worked at Alliance Community Hospital as Director of Housekeeping Services for ten years, before working in Materials Management at Akron City Hospital, retiring in 1995. He was currently employed in the maintenance department at Holiday Inn Express.
A member of Christian Missionary Church in Alliance, he was also a member of its Alliance Men's Group and former member of the Alliance Jaycees.
He enjoyed gardening, camping and beachcombing, having gone to a North Carolina beach annually for thirty years.
A U. S. Army veteran, Mr. Kirk served during the Korean Conflict, and had previously served with the Iowa National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Wilda L. (Teeters) Kirk, whom he married Dec. 12, 1954; twin daughters, Brenda K. (Chuck) Denny, of Weddington, NC, and Rhonda F. (Bob) Baughman, of Weddington, NC; son, Gary Robert (Gina) Kirk Jr., of Alliance; eight grandchildren, Kirk and Steven Denny, Casey and Corey Baughman, and Logan, Shawn, Sam and Landrey Kirk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marjorie Dovenspike, and Norma Kissinger, and one brother, Lewis Kirk.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Christian Missionary Alliance Church with Pastor Dennis Barta officiating. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment, with Military Honors provided by the American Legion and VFW Posts of Alliance will be at Highland Memorial Park.
