George T. Dietrich, age 87, of Alliance, passed away at 8:05 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Altercare of Alliance.
He was born July 19, 1926, in Malvern, Ohio, to Chas L. and Sarah (Berlin) Dietrich.
Immediately following his graduation from Alliance High School in 1945, he served eighteen months in the United States Army in the 2nd infantry MP Company during World War II.
After attending Dyke Business School in Cleveland, he served two years as an Alliance City Police Officer and two years as a Stark County Deputy Sheriff.
George retired from the United States Post Office after 30 years and held an Ohio license in real estate and auction sales.
He was a member of several local, state and national organizations.
An avid sports fan, George was a well-respected basketball and baseball official of the Ohio area from 1950 to 1970.
His family was his greatest pride and joy.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Ball) Dietrich of Alliance; children, Susan (Dietrich) Derrenbacher of Beaufort, SC, Deborah (Rick) Klepper of Astabula, Anne (Tim) King of Canfield and Dr. Thomas (Karen) Dietrich of Alliance; ten grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Esther Bierwirth and brother, Ralph Dietrich.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church co-officiated by Pastor Megan Elliott and Edward J. Harnish, minister. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park
