George Gurgle

George Gurgle, age 89, of N. Benton, Ohio, died at 12:52 a.m. Friday, August 6, 2010, at Summa Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls.
He was born October 7, 1920, in Canton, Ohio, to John and Maria Gurgle (Gergel) and was a life long area resident.
George was a United States Army Veteran. He was a railroad engineer for 46 years with Republic Steel and LTV Steel. A member of the St. George Byzantine Catholic Cathedral in Canton, he was also a member of the Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame, American Legion-Sebring Post, and the Romanian Society. George was an avid golfer, and caddied for The Firestone and Canadian Open and the Pro Golfers Association.
Survivors include his former wife and lifelong friend, M. Sundelle Gurgle of Akron; children, Marsha Aksentowitz (Alan Vanhorn) of Cottonwood, Arizona, George T. (Donna) Gurgle of Akron, Maria Sapp of Akron, John Gurgle of N. Benton and Ann (Steven) Stephens of Green; grandchildren, Deron, Crystal, Joyce, Alexandria, Joshua, Arica, Angela and Chris (Bobby); great-grandchildren, Teela, Seanna, Jami, Bryanna, Julia and Isabella; sisters, Anna Cuza of Massillon, Helen of Atlanta, Georgia; nieces, Debbie, Patsy and Donna; and special family friend, George "Robbie" Robinson II.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Theodore, Eli and John Gurgle, Paul Gergel; and sisters, Vera and Florence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at St. George Byzantine Catholic Cathedral, 1123 44th St. NE, Canton, with Fr. Ovidiu Marginean officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. A Saracusta Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the family to be given to George's favorite charities.
