George "Don" Middleton, age 87, of Alliance, passed away at 10:25 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Roselawn Gardens. He was born September 9, 1926, in New Waterford, Ohio, to Jesse and Beatrice (Brown) Middleton. George was employed as a welder at Alliance Structural and Alliance Machine Co. and also owner-operator of an excavating business. A member of Bolton United Methodist Church, Mr. Middleton served with the United States Army and rode with the last Horse Calvary. George enjoyed spending time with his family and following his grandchildren's sporting events. Survivors include his wife, Betty Ruth (Knecht) Middleton of Alliance, whom he married February 14, 1947; son, Daniel (Carolyn) Middleton, daughter, Karen (Ray) Barker, both of Alliance; daughter, Linda Sawyer of Whitesboro, Texas; grandchildren, Erin Barker-Brown (Jeff) Brown, Kristen Barker, Jodi (Jody) Kirgan and Seth Sawyer; great-granddaughter, Sawyer Kirgan; and sister, Eileen Kibler of Sebring. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Forrest "Cy" Middleton and Dewey "Torchy" Middleton; and two sisters, Arlene Middleton and Doris Cowen. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 7, 2014, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. David W. Bloor officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
