George N. Sandru

George N. Sandru, age 87, of Alliance, went home to be with the Lord, January 14, 2017, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.
He was born October 9, 1929.
George served his country in the United States Army then returned to Alliance where he worked at East Ohio Machinery. It was there he met his wife, Marilyn Dowling. He retired from Transue & Williams as a foreman in the die room at the age of 57.
For 20 years, they made their home in Englewood, Florida. Their family brought them back to Alliance.
George loved woodworking, playing tennis and working out at the YMCA.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marilyn; daughters, Stephanie (Jim) Hartenstein and Holly (Joe) Alfani; grandchildren, Leigh and Kyle Knife, Jared Hartenstein and Christopher Alfani; great-grandchildren, Jameson, Caden, Taryn and Jayden; nieces, Karen and Connie Nimereala; along with his precious four-legged friend, Baron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Nick Sandru; sister, Mary Nimereala; and a niece, Helen Youtz.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at Alliance Christian Center.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the MS Society, Alzheimer's Society, or the Wounded Warriors.
