George Zamagias, age 80, of Alliance, passed away at 3:05 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2013, at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born August 21, 1932, in Johnstown, PA to Michael and Lottie (Andrews) Zamagias.
A graduate of Alliance High School, George was the former owner of the Crystal Lounge, Alliance's oldest bar.
George was a Korean War veteran, where he earned the Bronze Star while serving in the U.S. Army, and a lifetime member of the VFW. He also enjoyed bowling and playing baseball with the Goat Hill Gang and was an active Alliance sports booster.
Survivors include his sons, Michael J. Zamagias of Alliance and Christopher Zamagias of Melbourne, FL.; grandchildren, Andy, Michael E., Christina, Nicholas and Kyle; great grandchildren, Gavin, Zander, Mackenzie McKay and Brianna Marie Smith; brother, Stephen (Norma) Zamagias; sisters, Barbara Monea and Mary Lou Fuchs; many loving nieces and nephews and his wonderful family in Johnstown and Pittsburgh, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Myrna (Barnes) Zamagias, who passed away in 2000; two infant daughters, Georgene and Georgeann; niece, Brenda Difluore; and nephew, Gary Underwood.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Bel-Air Care Center and Alliance Community Hospital for their exceptional care of George and his family.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral home with Fr. Basil Shaheen officiating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Interment will be in Alliance City Cemetery.
