Gerald C. Hoover, age 91, of Alliance, passed away at 3:05 p.m., Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Canterbury Villa.
Jerry was born April 13, 1928 in Waterford, Ohio to Lewis and Willa (Johns) Hoover.
Jerry attended Alliance High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Force. He served as a Medic during WWII, and later served with the Merchant Marines.
A quiet, kind, humble man, Jerry was always optimistic and a true gentleman. He was hardworking, could fix anything, and enjoyed numerous household projects.
In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting; and in his older years he enjoyed watching wildlife and feeding birds.
Jerry enjoyed gardening, watching old movies and westerns, and following the Cleveland Browns and Indians.
For many years, Jerry and his late wife Mary, loved going to auctions, and buying and selling antiques.
He was a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, as he enjoyed family picnics, cookouts, and especially playing croquet, corn hole and Mexican train with his grandchildren.
He also loved to play cards, especially euchre, with family, friends and with his card club.
A member of Science Hill Community Church, he was a member of the Alliance Senior Center, American Legion and the Moose Club.
Survivors include his son, Gary (Sally) Hoover; daughter, Linda (Mike) Pauli; six grandchildren, Amy Hoover, Carolyn (Brandon) Caywood, Michelle (Chris) Bade, Mark (Kristin) Pauli, Michael (Brenda) Pauli, Matt (Jamie) Pauli; 13 great-grandchildren, Alex and Nick Caywood, Sarah, Michael and Ryan Bade, Tyler Posey, Rylin, Ashlyn and Caitlen Pauli, Kayla and Emily Pauli, and Austin and Olivia Callahan.
He was preceded in death by his wife; Mary L. (Taylor) Hoover whom he married June 11, 1949, and who died July 21, 2019; his brothers, Glen and Gayle, and his parents.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2019 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Dr. Jo Ann Patterson officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Interment with Military Honors will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
