Gertrude M. Woods

Gertrude M. Woods, age 100 of Alliance, died at 8:20 a.m. Sept. 27, 2006 at Alliance Community Hospital. She was born May 16, 1906 in Alliance, Ohio to James and Margaret Emma (Gaskill) Moore and was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Woods graduated in 1924 from Alliance High School, was employed as a business manager for the Alliance Review for 30 years, and later worked as a secretary for the Masonic Temple. She was a life member of First Christian Church, and member of O.E.S. Chapter 296 of Alliance, Alliance Women's Club, Alliance Ladies Shrine Club, Elks Auxiliary, Faith Court #43 Order of Amaranth, Salem Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America-Kadish Court #19 of Akron, McKinley Shrine #54 of Canton, Knights Templar Ladies Club, and AARP. She is survived by her niece, Ruth Springer of Alliance. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James I. Woods, whom she married July 26, 1936 and who died May 13, 1963, one sister, Hazel Elliott, and one brother, Clayton Moore. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Pam Bruno officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
