Gertrude "Tomie" Thomas, 92, of Sebring died at Crandall Medical Center Saturday, June 28th following a short illness.
Tomie was born to Clarence and Violet (Means) Thomas June 21, 1916 in Pittsburgh, Pa. She graduated as a registered nurse from Allegheny General Hospital in 1937. In 1943, she joined the Army Nurse Corps and served in the United States Army during World War II. In 1946, she was discharged as a Captain. After her military service, along with her mother, she relocated to Alliance, Ohio. In 1984, she retired from an administrative nursing position at the Alliance Community Hospital where she worked as a registered nurse for 30 years.
Tomie was a long time member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Alliance. She was preceded in death by her Father and Mother. She is survived by many friends.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor James McCurdy officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church in Alliance, 425 E. Market St., Alliance, Ohio 44601.
