Gervais C. Baldwin

Gervais (Jerry) Calhoon Baldwin, age 98 of Kent, recently resided at Copeland Oaks, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025. He was born on July 8, 1926, in Erie Pennsylvania, the third son of Gurth and Mabel (Calhoon) Baldwin. He attended East Cleveland Schools. He graduated from Kent State University. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater in the New York 77th Division and the Fifth Air Force.

Upon college graduation, he was employed for 3 years as a Scout Executive for The Great Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America. For the next 34 years he was employed by Goodyear Aerospace Corporation as a Planner, Buyer, Subcontract Manager and Material Manager. After retirement he drove a school bus for Kent City Schools for 7 years.

For many years he was active in volunteer scouting, being awarded the Silver Beaver in 1976. Active with the Brimfield Lions Club and the Kent Lions Club servings as the King Lion in 1992-1993. He was honored with the Melvin E. Jones Fellowship Award in 2006.

He was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Kent. Gervais (Jerry) married June Mueller on August 9, 1952, at the Euclid Avenue Baptist Church in Cleveland Ohio.

Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife June, granddaughter Deanna Marie Baldwin of Diamond, parents, brothers Willard Gene Baldwin and Gurth Vernon Baldwin, and nephew Bradford Baldwin of Austin TX.

Gervais (Jerry) is survived by: his sons, Geoffrey (Rosemarie) C. Baldwin of Diamond and G Christopher (Juli) Baldwin of Stow; grandchildren Geoffrey (Ashley) C. Baldwin Jr. of Kent and Emily Catherine Baldwin of Olmsted Falls; great-grandchildren Baylee Nichole, Delanie Kimber, Gage Calhoon, and Abigail Rose; nephews and nieces Ralph (Janet) Gaeke of Fountain CO, June Gaeke of Leverett MA, Barbara Hoops of Tulsa OK, Kristen Baldwin of Raleigh NC, Rory Baldwin of Raleigh NC, Dana (Keith) Lorenz of Raleigh NC and many good friends.

A family burial service will be held at Acacia Memorial Park in Cleveland Ohio in the Spring, Pastor Neil Taylor will be officiating. Memorials can be made to Copeland Oaks at The Oaks Foundation, 715 S. Johnson Rd. Sebring, OH 44672.
