Gilbert D. Walter

Gilbert D. Walter, age 90, of Alliance, passed away at 9:55 a.m., Monday, April 20, 2015, at Altercare of Alliance.
He was born July 29, 1924, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Arthur Gilbert and Helen (Oliver) Walter.
Gilbert was a 1942 graduate of Lincoln High School in Midland, Pennsylvania.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Corp (later the United States Air Force) having served in World War II and the Battle of the Bulge. His tour of duty included France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Normandy and England.
Gilbert's memberships were the VFW, Dante Club, American Legion, ABC Bowling, Ron Vickers Memorial League, and the Alliance Area Senior Citizens. His hobbies included dancing, bowling and Lionel Trains.
He was employed as a taxi cab driver for Yellow Cab, Alliance Cab and Metro Cab; truck driver for Clem Lumber, Maloney Doors, Alliance Wholesalers, Terry's Tire Town, Stonebridge Tires and Bridgestone Tires; and a security guard for Pinkerton Security, Slesnick Iron and Metal, Sand Cap, American Steel, Alliance Clay Products, Alliance Machine and B&W Tube. He was also a gas station attendant for 40 years at the former Bills Marathon.
Survivors include his two sons, Gary (Bonnie) Walter of Canton and William (Kathy) Walter of Wind Lake, Wisconsin; two daughters, Rose Burris of Alliance and Sarah Hatton of Boardman; 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose (Watson) Walter, whom he married August 19, 1947; sons, Gilbert E. Walter and Larry A. Walter; and a daughter, Helen M. Walter.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park where there will be a committal service conducted by his grandson, Mr. Jonathan Walter of Bible Believers Baptist Church.
