Gordon Louis Harrison, age 75, of Alliance, was born in Pittsburgh, PA, to father Eric B. and mother, Harriet W. Harrison. He passed away on August 30th at the Cleveland Clinic.
The family moved to Alliance in 1945 to own and operate The Alliance Hardware Company.
Gordon ran the company from 1962 until it's closing in 1999. Gordon graduated from Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania and Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy (Armstrong) Harrison; children, Jeffrey G. Harrison of Poway, CA, Terrence Kassnel (Nancy) of Loveland, Matthew Kassnel (loving daughter-in-law, Nadine) of Kirtland, Pamela Kassnel of Massillon, Eric C. Harrison of Concord, New Hampshire; brothers, Keith W. (Marilyn) of Princeton, New Jersey, E. Barry Harrison (Barbara) of Loveland; and grandchildren, Leah Skivolocke, Justin Louis Kassnel, Sam Harrison, Luke Harrison, Cody Kassnel and Curtis Kassnel. He also leaves his special friends, Keith Brown and Mike Aeling, and his beloved dog, Ben.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A big man of imposing presence, he demonstrated his love for the Alliance community by his many,
many volunteer hours doing everything from being President of Carnation City Players to washing
dishes at the YWCA. Seldom idle, he was always doing, building, or improving something, and he would find a job for everyone who wanted to participate. His talents, willingness to help, and zest for life will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, September 6, 2013, at the Firehouse Theatre, 450 E. Market St., Alliance, Ohio.
