Gordon H. Weber, age 89, of Atwater, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord at 7:40 p.m., Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Alliance Community Hospital.
He was born August 3, 1926, in Hinckley Minnesota, to Ed and Lottie (Salvason) Weber.
A 1944 graduate of Atwater High School, Gordon went on to earn his bachelor's degree from University of Akron, where he was a member of the Lone Star fraternity, and his master's degree from Kent State University. He spent many years as a teacher, guidance counselor and coach at Ravenna High School.
Gordon served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and was co-founder of the Atwater Historical Society. He was a member of the Atwater United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for 60 years. Gordon served as past president of the Portage County Farm Bureau and wrote the zoning rules and bylaws for Atwater Township. He was politically active in the farm bureau supporting various agricultural initiatives.
During his battle with Alzheimer's, Gordon was able to remain on his farm which he loved. This would not have been possible without the care of his wife, Phyllis and the love and support of his Atwater United Methodist Church family. Every day of his life, Gordon has always demonstrated his Christian faith through his patience, compassion and concern for others. His family will always be grateful for his influence of integrity and grace.
