Grace (Pirie) Leask

Grace Catherine Jean (Pirie) Leask, age 91, of Deerfield, passed away at 6:50 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Altercare of Alliance. She was born December 13, 1923, in South Porcupine, Ontario, Canada to George and Ella (Stewart) Pirie and moved to Deerfield in 1950. Grace was a graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing in Timmins, Ontario. She had been a registered nurse at Alliance Community Hospital for 32 years in the Obstetrics department until her retirement. A member of Deerfield United Methodist Church, she also belonged to Lads and Lassies, Alliance Senior Center, and Retired Nurses of Alliance. She loved to bowl and play cards and prior to her eyesight failure, she enjoyed knitting. She is survived by her husband Maurice James Leask whom she married April 6, 1946; children, Robert (Becky) Leask, Carolyn (Mike) Salamon, Janet (Woody) Booth, and John (Marty) Leask; brother, Bill (Jean) Pirie and Lorne (Marion) Pirie; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Neil (Thelma) Pirie and Stew (Gerry) Pirie. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at Deerfield United Methodist Church 1483 St. Rt. 225 Deerfield, Oh 44411. Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home.
