Harold R. "Bud" Devies, age 93, of Marlboro, passed away at 10:50 a.m., Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at Canton Christian Home with his loving wife, Mary at his side.
He was born July 23, 1921, in Jackson Township, Ohio, to Lester G. and Sarah (Hardie) Devies and has resided in Marlboro Township since 1923.
Harold was a 1939 graduate of Marlboro High School and had been employed as a plant supervisor at Columbia Gas retiring in 1983 after 43 years of service. A staff sergeant with the United States Army Air Corp, he served in Panama during World War II.
He was a member of Marlboro Christian Church where he taught Sunday school for 50 years and had been a member of the Friendship class and the choir. He was a member of the American Legion Post 166 of Alliance, AARP Chapter 3932, Marlington Senior Citizens, Marlington Alumni Association, and former member of the Marlboro Volunteers. Harold had also been a bowler at the former Parkway Bowling Lanes in Alliance for more than 40 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary E. (Betty) Devies, whom he married May 31, 1946; daughters, Aleda Devies of Florida and Bonnie (Larry) Hoover of Marlboro; son, Leslee (Cathy) Devies of Petaluna, California; four grandchildren, Randy (Heather) Hoover, Sarah (Wayne) Turbyfield, Tiffany (Tim) Hughes and Tonya (Greg) Clark; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Wallace of Alliance; nephews, Bill (Carol) Umberger, Larry (Sophie) Umberger, Keith Umberger, Gene (Marilyn) Devies, Robert Devies, and Ron (Barb) Devies; great-nieces and great-nephews; and special family friend, Sarah Futterman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; two brothers; two half-brothers; a nephew, Dennis Devies.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Marlboro Christian Church with Pastor Ed Harnish officiating. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, January 16, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and the hour prior to the service at the church Saturday. Interment will be at Marlboro Cemetery.
