Harold Lewis Hall passed away quietly on 04 December 2021. Harold was born in Dennison, Ohio on 22 October 1926, the fourth son of Harry and Ida Hall.
He was a graduate of Canton Lincoln High School and a proud veteran of the Merchant Marines during World War II where he was a crew member on the oil tanker SS Bunker Hill serving the U.S. fleet in the Pacific. Thereafter he initially attended Ohio State University, graduated from Mount Union College and received a Master’s Degree in Education from Kent State University. Harold had a long and impactful career in education serving as a teacher and principal within the Perry school district, a Superintendent for the Marlington School District, and as Assistant Superintendent for Stark County Schools.
Following his retirement from public education in 1984 he returned to Mount Union College to work in Admissions where he eventually served as the Director of International Programs. This became his greatest passion as he traveled the world recruiting a diverse and talented group of international students who became known as “Harold’s Kids”. He and his immediate family shared many wonderful times and adventures with these students and close bonds remained throughout his life.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers (Jack, Robert and Harry) and his daughter Tracie Lee and son in-law David DiRamio. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of nearly seventy-four years, Alyce Ann (Springer), sons Daniel (Vallene) and Todd (David), grandchildren Jennifer (Robert) Zaucha and Tyler Hall, great-grandchildren Ronan, Jasper and Claire as well as many dear nieces and nephews. Harold will be deeply missed by his many close friends, colleagues, and family members.
A memorial service will be held at Union Avenue United Methodist Church, 1843 S Union Ave, Alliance, OH 44601, on April 9, 2022, at 11 am followed by a light luncheon in the fellowship hall. The family will receive guests approximately one hour prior to the service.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the many friends and family members who have provided their love, support and prayers as well as to the staffs at Aultman Hospital (Alliance and Canton), Copeland Oaks and Crandall Medical Center in Sebring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harold and Alyce Ann Hall International Scholarship at the University of Mount Union.
How is a man’s life to be measured? It is measured by the lives that he touched and the love that remains.
Arrangements are entrusted to Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, 75 South Union Ave Alliance, Ohio 44601.
