Harold L. "Hank" Summers age 77 of Alliance, died at 12:02 p.m. Monday April 12, 2004 at Aultman Hospital.
Mr. Summers was born October 7, 1926 in Canton, Ohio to Harold L. and Bertha (Jones) Summers, and moved to Alliance from Carrollton, Ohio in 1941.
A 1944 graduate of Alliance High School, Mr. Summers attended Mount Union College, and was employed by Babcock and Wilcox Tube for 25 years. He served as the Office Manager at John Martig Chrysler Plymouth in Louisville for six years, and retired from Tank Services in Bolivar as Accountant/Office Manager in 1991. He later retired from Ace Rubber in Akron in 2000.
A. U.S. Army WWII veteran, Mr. Summers served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
Harold was a life member and 7 year Past Commander of V.F.W. Post 1036, and member of its honor guard, Past Commander of V.F.W. Buckeye County Council, Adjutant of V.F.W. District 6, member of the Department of Ohio Credentials Committee, and life member of V.F.W. National Home for Children.
He was also a life member and Past Commander of American Legion Post 166 and member and Past Chef De'Gar of La Societe Voiture 925 of the 40&8. He was a member of Amvets Post 45, life member of D.A.V. Chapter 50, and treasurer of Alliance Veterans Council.
Mr. Summers was a 25 year member of Elks Lodge 467, and member of First Christian Church.
He served as a director on the board for Buckeye State Credit Union and on the board for the Alliance Chapter of American Red Cross.
He was a former member of the Alliance Memorial Day committee, past honorary parade marshal, and served on the Carnation Festival Committee in the 1960s.
He was a life member of the Roma Society and served for many years as Secretary/Treasurer of the Men's Athletic Club.
Harold enjoyed playing golf at various courses and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Elliott) Summers, whom he married Dec. 28, 1973, two daughters; Diane (Jason) Mitchell, of Alliance, and Sharon Zines of Florida, one step-daughter; Beth (Dale) Miller of Florida, one step-son, William (Michelle) Hartenstein of Lisbon, grandchildren; Carlee and Caleb Mitchell, Joshua, Sarah, and Nicholas Hartenstein, Brittany Rhodes, and Jeffrey Zines, one great-grandson, two sisters; Carol (Richard) Antal, of Maryland, and Iris (Gene) Moulin of Kettering, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Summers was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard D. Summers.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Craig Jones of First Christian Church officiating.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion and the V.F.W. Posts of Alliance.
