Harry O. Wheaton, died September 15, 2013.
He was born September 12, 1923, in Alliance to Otis and Helene Drothler Wheaton.
He graduated from Alliance High School in 1941, received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the Ohio State University in 1952 and earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Akron in 1959.
He was employed by the Vickers Company in Detroit in 1952 and the Hoover Company in North Canton from 1952 to 1955. He served as Superintendent of Industrial Engineering at American Steel from 1955 to 1960.
He then went on to practice law in Alliance for 40 years and served as law director from 1972 to 1984.
Mr. Wheaton was a registered professional engineer and member of the Ohio and Alliance Bar Associations. He was a former member of the Alliance Board of Education and served as president in 1965. Also he was a former member of the Kiwanis, Conrad Lodge F and AM No. 271, and the Alliance Country Club. He served on the Board of Habitat for Humanity and was a member of the First Immanuel United Church of Christ for many years.
During World War II, he was a member of the United States Air Force from 1941 to 1945 where he trained and served as a meteorologist.
Harry was an avid golfer as well. His genuine love for the game was obvious to everyone around him and he recorded two hole-in-ones at the Alliance Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Martha (Scott) Wheaton and daughter, Barbara (Scott) Reys of Shaker Heights, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert G. Wheaton of California who died in 2007.
Memorial services for Mr. Wheaton will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Bennett Chapel at Copeland Oaks. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alliance Branch of Habitat for Humanity at 405 S. Linden Ave. Suite 207, Alliance, OH 44601.
The family would like to thank the employees of Crandall Medical Center and the Hospice of the Valley for their care and kindness.
