Harvey A. Johnston, age 82, of Alliance, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at Canterbury Villa.
He was born December 20, 1929, in Freedom, Pennsylvania, to Milo Graham and Grace Alma (Miller) Johnston.
Harvey retired from Con Rail, formerly employed at Heestand's Auto Parts as a parts runner, had been a bus driver, owned his own mower shop, and was an all-around handyman.
A veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a paratrooper, Harvey was a member of the American Legion. He loved gardening, fishing, reading books, traveling, eating out, dancing, bird watching and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Claire Johnston; his children, Jim McCartney of Kingwood, W. Va., Milo Johnston of Youngstown, Richard Johnston of Clarksville, TN, Sherry Hudson of Alliance and John Johnston of Nimishillen Twp.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Eliza Bostanic of Rochester, Pa., Ruth Lipscomb of Beaver, Pa. and Jim Johnston of Canton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters and two brothers.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Eric Crites officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
