Edith Hazel Hoover, age 92, of Alliance, died at 12:56 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2012 at home with her family at her side following a long illness. Hazel, as she was known throughout her life, was born October 4, 1920, the youngest of Charles G. and Laura (McLean) Gerber's five children. She grew up on the family farm on Salem Church Street, graduated from Alliance High School in 1938, and for a time worked at Taylorcraft's airplane factory. In 1941, she married Edmund A. Hoover.
Hazel was a member of the Alliance West Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and enjoyed sharing the good news of God's Kingdom with others. She also liked family cookouts and campfires, where her homemade potato salad and dry humor will be missed.
She is survived by sons, William (Deborah) Hoover and David (Marilyn) Hoover; grandchildren, Shane (Sara) Hoover, Derek (Teniesha) Hoover and Michelle (Mitch) White; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by Edmund, her husband of 62 years; her parents; brothers, Willis and Charles Gerber; and sisters, Clara Moyer and Ruth Gerber.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 701 W. Main St., with Louis G. Whitaker officiating.
