Hazel L. Twilla, age 88, of Alliance, died at 9:35 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013, at Alliance Community Hospital.
She was born December 18, 1924, in Wilmington, North Carolina, to Samuel and Martha (Bizzell) Gavins, having moved to Alliance from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, in 1965.
Hazel was a former member of the Eastern Star in Pittsburg. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, reading her Bible, going for walks and loved to travel and go fishing.
Survivors include her daughter, Michella (Tony) Williams of Alliance; three sons, Louis Scott Jr. of Columbus, Lorenzo N. (Nancy) Scott of Alliance, and Lynnwood (Cynthia) Scott of Alliance; grandson, Louis "Champ" Scott, whom she raised; eleven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Polly Lenning of Pittsburg PA and Sadie Mae Moreland of California; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John S Twilla; daughter, Francine Scott in 1971; son, Norman A. Scott in 1992; three sisters, Minnie White, Catherine James and Mary Thompson; and brother, Samuel Gavins, Jr.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev Bobby Williams officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
