Helen (Pauli) Hazen, age 91, of Alliance, died at 1:50 a.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born May 5, 1919, and was a lifelong resident of Lexington Township. She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Erma (Oswalt) Pauli. Also preceding her in death were a sister, Phyllis Price and a brother, Ivan "Pete" Pauli.
Helen was a 1938 graduate of Alliance High School. Following graduation, she worked at the former Alliance Ware during World War II to support the war effort. Helen's next job was that of a wife and mother, when she married Thomas W. Hazen on November 10, 1945. She was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Helen enjoyed gardening, sewing, mowing, spending time outdoors, and being with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her loving husband of 65 years, Tom Hazen; a daughter, Cyndi (Eric) Syme; and a son, Rod (Lisa) Hazen, all of Alliance; her loving grandchildren, Alicia Hazen, April (Jordan) Levien, Dana (Olivia) Hazen, Ashley Hazen and Rachel Syme. During the last year, Helen enjoyed visits with her great-grandson, Jeriah Levien. Helen is also survived by sisters, Thelma Saunier and Esther (James) Ailes; a sister-in-law, Helen Marie Pauli; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2011, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Pastor Joel Adkins officiating. Friends may call from 4 - 6 p.m. Sunday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Interment will be at Marlboro Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church Building Improvement Fund, 11394 Edison St., N.E., Alliance, Ohio 44601.
