Helen R. Hunter, age 98, of Alliance, died at 5:50 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Crandall Medical Center.
She was born May 6, 1913, in Alliance, to Matthew Thomas and Effie Mae (Clapper) Hunter and was a lifelong resident of Alliance.
Helen graduated from Alliance High School, and Canton Actual Business College. She started working for her uncle, Atty. F.E. Hunter in his Alliance law office, when she was 17. She also became legal secretary and office manager for her cousin, Atty. Robert R. Hunter, Sr., and second cousin, Atty. Robert R. Hunter, Jr. Helen started using a computer for her work at age 80, and later used the internet for her work. She retired at the age of 95, after 78 years with the law firm.
Helen was a lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church and was active in the Women's Circle. She was an avid reader, active in her card club, and enjoyed many annual travel adventures with her sister, Martha.
Survivors include her nieces, Katherine J. Horton of Stanley, NC, Diana J. Johnson of Lake Oswego, OR, Alice Chilgreen of Marion, IN and Mary Lou Stallings of Mentone, Ala. and nephews, Mark T Bowerman of Arleta, Calif. and Roger A Bowerman of Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Martha J. Bowerman, Lois Shannon and Mary E. Fritz.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Karl Stonebraker of Christ United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 to 9:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ United Methodist Church, 470 E. Broadway St., Alliance Ohio or to the Rodman Public Library, 215 E. Broadway St. Alliance, Ohio 44601.
