Helen Ilene Brown, age 89, passed away on July 15, 2024.
She was born on August 8, 1934 at home in Muskingum County, Ohio to Thomas E. and Edna E. (Munn) Wood.
Helen attended Roosevelt High School. She worked retail at Hower’s Department Store until her marriage in 1955 and later that year worked at J.C. Penney while her husband was in the Air Force. Helen was a homemaker for the next 8 years and then helped her husband with his business from 1964-1977. She opened Hickory Hills Antiques in the late 70’s.
Helen grew up with music and especially loved 40’s folk and country. She was a talented seamstress and gourmet cook, skills she started learning when she was only 10 years old. Helen was an avid gardener and enjoyed preserving, as well as baking and decorating. In recent years, she was a voracious reader and kept up with the news and current events. She also liked to watch westerns and classic films. Helen was a supporter of environmental and historic preservation organizations and collected books and ‘unusual’ old things. She loved her family and doing genealogy research. Helen always made holidays special.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Christine E. (Michael) Hetherington; grandson, Michael J. Hetherington; granddaughter, Kate A. (Ethan) Luginbill; and two great-grandchildren plus one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; and her husband, Charles. E. Brown.
A private graveside service will be held per Helen’s request.
