Helen Kiel

Helen Marie Kiel Ely, age 86, of Alliance, died at 10:01 a.m. Sunday, October 5, 2008 at Alliance Community Hospital.
She was born March 14, 1922, in Alliance, Ohio, to Edgar B. and Mary (Clapsaddle) Taylor.
Mrs. Ely was a 1940 graduate of Alliance High School. She retired from Aldersgate and Christ United Methodist Church as a Secretary after 24 years in 1994.
Helen was a member of Christ United Methodist Church since 1933. She served as District Officer for the United Methodist Women and was very active with the United Methodist Women. She was formerly a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 296 and was a Caring Friend for Crandall Medical Center.
Survivors include three sons, Walter H. Kiel of Gratis, OH, Phillip E. (Juanita) Kiel of Smithsburg, MD, Paul R. (Debbie) Kiel of N. Canton, OH; two daughters, Marilyn (Will) Omodt of Kingsport, TN, Diane (Brad) Thomas of Damascus, OH; nine grandchildren, Hanz Omodt, Anna (Michael) Omodt Williams, Matthew Kiel, Jennifer Kiel, Brian Kiel, Jeremy Kiel, Heather Thomas, Scott Thomas, Rachel Thomas; four great grandchildren, Gideon, Harlan, Jasper, and Eliana Williams; and one sister, Carolyn Heim of Cape Coral, FL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Erven Kiel, whom she married on May 22, 1945, and who died on October 3, 1984; second husband, Dwight H. Ely, whom she married on May 13, 1989, and who died on August 27, 1995; and one brother, Roy Taylor.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. David Hostetler officiating. Friends may call Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Mt. Union Cemetery.
