Helen Patterson, age 98, of Alliance, passed away at 9:15 a.m., Thursday, April 7, 2011 at McCrea Manor.
She was born June 2, 1912, in Kokomo, Indiana, to Miron and Sofia (Gavrella) Halmagy. Her parents brought her to Alliance as a small child and she resided here most of her life.
A 1931 graduate of Alliance High School, Helen received her BA from the College of Wooster in 1935 and her Master's in business and elementary education at Kent State University. Mrs. Patterson worked as an elementary and high school teacher in Alliance.
She was a member of the Union Ave. United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Patterson is survived by a brother, Nick Halmagy of Nova, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy Milton Patterson, whom she married in 1938 and who died November 1, 1976; daughter, Patrice Patterson, who died February 28, 2008; and two brothers, Dan and John Halmagy.
A private graveside service will be held Monday, April 11, 2011, at Alliance City Cemetery with Rev. Hoyte Wilhelm officiating. Interment will follow.
