Helen M. (Gosser) Hartzell, 97, of Poland, OH, formerly of North Benton, OH, passed away at 5:41 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at Park Vista Assisted Living in Youngstown.
She was born July 27, 1922, in Ellsworth Township, Mahoning County to Louis A. and Edith M. (Brown) Gosser.
Helen was a 1940 graduate of North Jackson High School in Mahoning County. During World War II she worked at Goodyear in Akron as a “Rosie the Riveter.” She also worked as a decal artist for the former Queens China in Sebring.
She attended North Benton Presbyterian Church and was a life member of the United Paper Worker’s International Union No. 1528 AFL-CIO CLC. She also was a member of the Alliance Genealogical Society, Deerfield Historical Society, Ellsworth Historical Society and the Alliance Senior Center.
Survivors include a sister, Marjorie E. (Gosser) Lenci of Fontana, CA. She also leaves her children: Kathie A. (Hartzell) Bickers of Sylmar, CA; Kenneth W. and Linda (Herren) Hartzell of Poland; Daniel L. Hartzell and (Chimeg Kinney) of Beloit; Dale L. and Paula (Syppko) Hartzell of Sebring; Faye E. (Hartzell) and John Reed of LaBelle, FL.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband Roland M. Hartzell, whom she married April 10, 1944, in Leesville, LA and who died April 30, 2000; a sister, Alice L. (Gosser) Sternagle; and brothers, Francis E., Donald F., Myron E., Roy L., and Lloyd C. Gosser; and one great-great grandson.
The Rev. Mark Bell will officiate a private interment for immediate family at Hartzell Cemetery in North Benton. A memorial service will be announced for a later date at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 471 Mathews Rd., Boardman, OH 44512.
