Herman L. "Roy" Zeigler, age 79 of Alliance died at Oakhill Manor at 5:30 p.m. September 20, 2003.
He was born in Alliance, on April 22, 1924 to David and Mary M. (Bowser) Zeigler and was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Zeigler attended Alliance Public Schools, and was employed by American Steel Foundries for 35 years, retiring in 1977 as an Inspector.
He was a member of the VFW Post 1036, American Steel Foundries 25 year club, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.
On January 28, 1943, Mr. Zeigler joined the U.S. Army, and served during WWII, until Oct. 12, 1945 with the 169th Combat Engineers, and was the recipient of 5 bronze stars.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Ruth (Ganni) Zeigler, whom he married December 14, 1946, two sons, Leroy (Lori) Zeigler of Homeworth, Gary (Terri) Zeigler, of N. Canton, one daughter Karen (Mark) Norcia, of N. Canton, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one sister, Mary Stone of Alliance, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Zeigler was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter Andrea Zeigler Floyd, one sister Gladys Roesti, and two brothers David and Jess Zeigler.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
