Howard Bahler, age 93, of Beloit, passed away at 11:40 a.m., Friday, May 16, 2014 at Auburn Skilled Nursing in Salem.
He was born February 2, 1921, in Louisville, Ohio, to Walter and Louella (Cameron) Bahler and was a lifetime resident of Alliance.
A high school graduate, Howard was employed at Transue Williams for 40 years and retired in 1979 as a foreman. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
He attended Alliance First Baptist Church. Howard was quite the outdoors man, going fishing and hunting, playing horseshoes and shuffle board. He also loved playing cards.
Survivors include his daughter, Carol (Dale) Zwick of Alliance; son, Tim (Jill) Bahler of Dalton; grandchildren, Cullen (Rissa), Cameron and Evan Bahler, Dale Zwick, Jr., Tammy Harris, and Pam (John) Hardy; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Sophia and Emma Zwick, Trent (Heidi), Scott (Brianna) and Mark McIlvain; great-great-grandchildren, Austin, Harper, Paige and Brock McIlvain; siblings Paul Bahler of Riverside, California, Charles Bahler of Louisville, William Bahler of Sebring and Martha Daugherty of Welaka, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of more than 73 years, Wilda M. (Lare) Bahler whom he married August 30, 1940 and who died March 7, 2014; brothers, Carl, Atlee, Leonard, George, Richard and James Bahler; and sisters, Hazel Hackley, Bertha Purdy, Viola Pointer, Evelyn Eagle and Pauline Tilander.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Rev. Don Miller officiating. Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
The family wishes to give their greatest gratitude to the Grace Hospice and Auburn Skilled Nursing for their care of Howard.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice 7206 Market St. Youngstown, Ohio 44512 or to the Auburn Skilled Nursing, 451 Valley Road, Salem, OH 44460.
