Howard R. Johnson, age 93, of Alliance, formerly of Deerfield, Ohio died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2010 at Altercare of Alliance.
He was born April 15, 1917, in Dubois, PA, to Charles Ernest Johnson and Lelia Catherine (Reed) Johnson. He has resided in Deerfield and vicinity since 1941.
Howard was a high school graduate. He was employed as a milk delivery man for Superior Dairy until his retirement in 1976.
He was a member of Deerfield United Methodist Church and attended the Deerfield Friends Church.
Howard was a United States Army Veteran having served in a field hospital in France.
Survivors include his wife, Jennie Ruth (Ackelson) Johnson of Deerfield, whom he married January 19, 1941; three daughters, Elaine (Wm. Richard) Burkey of Deerfield, Carole Eagle of Lilburn, GA and Janet (George) Crowley of Gandeeville, WV; son, Darryl Johnson of Deerfield; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; a sister, Audrey Schafer of Brandon, Fla. and daughter-in-law, Rachel Johnson of Bradenton, Fla.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Howard Johnson, Jr. and Charles "Ernie" Johnson; daughter, Cheryl Jeanne; three brothers, Emerson, Morris, and Ernest Jr.; and seven sisters, Elva Dunning, Maxine Dunn, Bernice Johnson and Jane Johnson, Betty Klepper, Doris Hawk, and Janet Lunn.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 15, 2010, at Deerfield Friends Church with Pastor Jody Hill officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Hartzell Cemetery at a later date.
