Howard C. "Rock" McConnell

Howard C. "Rock" McConnell, age 76, of Beloit, passed away at 9:20 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2016, at his home.
He was born April 9, 1939, in Alliance, Ohio, to Frank and Dorothy (Hons) McConnell and was a lifelong area resident.
Rock was self-employed in tire sales and service for 44 years and had previously worked for General Tire before opening his own business.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy as flight director on the USS WASP and on the commissioning crew on the USS Independence.
Howard was a member of the Reading Church of the Brethren.
In addition to his wife, Marilyn (Johnson) McConnell, whom he married April 19, 1969, Howard is survived by his children, Scott McConnell of Byesville, Julie MacMillan of Barnesville, Valerie McConnell of Streetsboro and Mike (Bev) McConnell of Bethesda; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Diane Bingham of Canton, and Karen Ferrell of Akron; and four brothers, Tom McConnell of Alliance, Keith McConnell of Florida, Bob McConnell of Indiana and Don McConnell of Atwater.
Preceding him in death were his parents; infant sister, Patty; sister, Judy Van Meter; and a brother, Frank McConnell.
Services will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, January 29, 2016, at Reading Church of the Brethren in Homeworth with Pastor Larry Bradley officiating. Friends may call from 10 am till the time of the service at 12 p.m. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park.
