Hugh Parks Simpson, age 92, of Ocala, Florida, formerly of Alliance, died Saturday, December 1, 2012.
He was born December 18, 1919, in Alliance, Ohio, to Frank H. and Bertha (Stephens) Simpson.
Hugh was an Alliance High School graduate, treasurer of Formprint Inc. and part-owner of Saffell-Hively Printing Company in Alliance.
In 1982 he moved to Naples, Florida, and in 1992 he moved to Ocala, Fla.
His memberships include more than 70 years at Bethany United Presbyterian Church of Alliance, life member of the 3rd Armored Division, Blinded Veteran Association, and DAV. He was an Amateur Radio Operator WA8ETW, member of the Eye Emergency Net and Friendship Amateur Radio Club.
A veteran of the United States Army from 1942 to 1945, Hugh received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and served five campaigns in ETO.
Survivors include his son, Kenneth L. (Sue) Simpson of Ocala, Fla., daughter, Martha (Paul) Gerber of Massillon; granddaughters, Diane (Jim) Mitchell of Centreville, VA and Karelynne (Michael) Ayayo of Massillon; grandson, Stephen T. Simpson of Albuquerque, NM; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Doris (Hively) Simpson, who died in 2004; and two sisters.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2012, at Highland Memorial Park Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service.
