Irene Lowry Chance, age 89, of Wadsworth and formerly of Alliance, died at 11:10 p.m. February 17, 2008 at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital. Mrs. Chance was born July 12, 1918 to Frank and Sylvia (Hilton) Lowry in Alliance and resided in the area most of her life. She was an Alliance High School graduate and was employed by the former Mt. Union Bank. Mrs. Chance served as Chief Deputy Clerk of Courts for the Alliance Municipal Courts until her retirement in 1987. Mrs. Chance was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, actively served in the Republican Club where she had served as secretary and was a volunteer for the Alliance Red Cross. She also was a Pink Lady for the Alliance Community Hospital. Mrs. Chance enjoyed playing bridge, working crossword puzzles, playing the piano and organ. She was an excellent seamstress. She is survived by her daughters, Sharyl (Michael) Cindia of Wadsworth, Jo Elyn (Philip) Slifkin of Moon Twp, PA, Kimberly (Thomas) Loy of Wadsworth; 4 grandchildren, Michael T. Cindia, Susan Hutchinson, Laura Booher and Andrew Slifkin; 5 great grandchildren, Allison, William, Michael, Jason and Hailey; two sisters, Mildred Parks and Jeanne Kelly, both of Alliance. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband C. Kenneth Chance, whom she married May 20, 1942 and who died November 4, 1996; two sisters, Pauline and Honor Lowry. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Beechwood Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, Alliance, Ohio.
