Irene Hampu

Irene G. Hampu, age 95, of Alliance, died at 3:55 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2011, at Altercare of Alliance.
She was born September 27, 1915, in Louisville, to Petru and Ana (Apati) Greavu and resided in Alliance her entire life.
Irene was an Alliance High School graduate. She was a member of the St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church and of the U.S. Transylvanian Society.
Survivors include her sons, George (Anne) Hampu of Canton, Robert P. (Patty) Hampu of Alliance; four grandchildren, Mark Hampu of Canton, Lisa (Gary) Howard of Toledo, Brad (Megan) Hampu of Delaware, Oh., and Elizabeth (Brian) Simmons of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Amanda Huffman and Dylan and Zachary Hampu; and great-great-granddaughter, Addison Huffman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George N. Hampu, whom she married October 27, 1935, and who died July 13, 2002; and two brothers, Peter and Codrea Greavu.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2011, at St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Pantelimon Stanciu officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday prior to the service. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
