Irene Oyster

April 4, 1912 — December 7, 2008

Irene H. (McMaster) Oyster, age 96 of Alliance, was called home to heaven at 3:05 a.m. Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Alliance Community Hospital.
Mrs. Oyster was born April 4, 1912, in Alliance, Ohio to Robert A. and Mariam (Simpson) McMaster Sr. and was a lifelong resident.
A graduate of Alliance High School and Alliance Business College, Mrs. Oyster was the manager of the former Beverly Shop in Alliance.
She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church and active with her church, community, charitable and fraternal organizations, including Order of Eastern Star, Amaranth and White Shrine of Jerusalem. Irene was a founding member of the Lexington Grange and member of the Alliance Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed traveling, reading, learning and getting together with family and friends.
Mrs. Oyster was especially proud of her Scottish heritage and traveled to Scotland to learn more.
She will be sadly missed by her nephews, Ron (Robin) McMaster of Louisville and Arthur McMaster of Akron; niece, Barbara Irene (Randy) Byron of Acworth GA; sister-in-law, Eva McMaster of Acworth, GA; and a special friend, Elsie Rosenberger of Alliance.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar Charles Oyster, who died in January 1974; daughter, Marilyn Jean Oyster; brothers, Elmer L. McMaster, Arthur E. McMaster and Robert A. McMaster; and sisters, Janet Lee Russell, Edna Mazure, Charlotte Mangus.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor James McCurdy officiating. Friends may call from Noon to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Amaranth Diabetes Fund.
Arrangements are by Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, Alliance, Ohio.
