Rev. James Christian Common, age 24 of Tampa Florida, and formerly of Alliance, died Wednesday September 14, 2005 in Gogama, Ontario Canada.
He was born July 21, 1981 in Salem, Ohio to Richard Joseph and Karen Wright Common.
James was the Salutatorian of West Branch High School's Class of 1999. He attended Kent State University and completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Minnesota School of Theology, Tampa campus. He had recently completed his graduate courses and earned a Masters of Divinity degree from the same school. In April of 2004, James was ordained to the Deaconate of the Anglican Church and was to enter the priesthood in 2006.
James was employed as a server at J. Alexander's Restaurant in Tampa Florida, and served his ministry internship as a Chaplain at University Community Hospital in Tampa.
He was a member of LifeSpring Community Church of Tampa where he served as Youth Pastor and Director of Community Outreach.
While James was a student at West Branch, he was a member of the National Honor Society, Debate Team, Drama Club, Soccer team and Tennis team, and was the Audio Director for the Young and Alive Show Choir. He enjoyed surfing, fishing, softball, soccer and amateur video production.
Survivors include his mother, Karen Wright Common of Alliance; two sisters, Jennifer Elizabeth Common of Bloomfield NJ., Kathryn Anne Common and her partner Elisabeth Douglass of Boston MA, two uncles, Rev. Bruce D. (Elaine) Wright of Tampa, Florida and Mark A. (Marcella) Common of Louisville, Ohio; two aunts, Sharon (Michael) Common of Salem, Ohio and Netta Common of Alliance, and many cousins.
James died with his father Richard Joseph "Dick" Common and his uncle Michael P. Common. He was followed in death by his uncle, Frank C. Common.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Gordon Thomas and the Rt. Rev. Bruce D. Wright. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
