James W. “Jimi” Cox, age 71, of Alliance passed away on December 28, 2021 at Rose Lane Nursing in Massillon.
He was born on April 21, 1950 in Renton, Washington to Russell E. Cox and Novella M. (Law) Cox.
Jimi graduated from Alliance High School and attended Kent State University. He worked for Deft Inc. and Dunham’s sports before retiring from Salem Republic Rubber in Sebring. Jimi served honorably in the United States Navy. He learned the bass guitar at an early age and discovered music was his passion. He played bass for various bands, most notably for the Roller Brothers Band; they toured for seven years in sixteen states. He went on to rejoin the Roller Brothers again in the classic rock band Time Warp. He played with them for another seven years, mostly in local establishments. Jimi would “eat, sleep and play” music whenever he could.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Debra P. (Wait) Cox, whom he married July 24, 1993; his children, Jennifer (Brian) Jacobs, Jacob (Danielle) Cox, Sarah (Josh) Gelter, Christopher Clair and Taylor (Sam Krzysiak) Cox; grandchildren, Zach Clair and Courtney Clair; great-grandson, Dylan; and sister, Beverly Pockar.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ernie Cox; and his brother, Russell Cox.
A funeral service will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home on Thursday, January 6th at 6:00 p.m. with a visitation from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Interment will be at Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery.
