James Nelson Yaggi, age 54 of 24179 Buck Road, Alliance lost his courageous battle with cancer on June 6, 2003 at 5 p.m. at his home, surrounded by his family.
The loving husband, father and grandfather was born July 16, 1948 in Alliance, Ohio and was a lifelong resident. He was employed by the Timken Company, from which he retired May 22. He also was employed by Transue and Williams Forging Plant. The 1967 graduate of West Branch High School served in the U.S. Army as a Spec 4 from November of 1967 to August of 1969. He was a 30 year member of the American Legion Post 166 of Alliance, charter member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, life member of the DAV Chapter 50, Amvets Post 45 of Salem, life member of VFW Post 1036, life social member where he chaired the breakfast committee for 30 years. He also was a member of the Roma Society. He served on the Homeworth Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, and was a long-standing member of the Mile Branch Grange.
Jim put his all into everything he attempted. He was the VFW Post 1036 color guard sergeant, and enjoyed marching in various area parades. His past times included gardening, walking, listening to rock and roll music, and visiting Myrtle Beach where he avidly hunted sharks teeth. His football passion was following Mt. Union Purple Raiders.
He his survived by his wife of 33 years, Dona (Weibush) Yaggi, whom he married April 11, 1970, two daughters Vanessa (Alex) Heckman, of Westerville, Ohio, Kristen (Bryan) Stowe of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and two sons James Kyle Yaggi, of Westerville, Ohio and James Earl Anderson of Kent, Ohio. He leaves three precious grandchildren Alise Heckman and Jessica and Ryan Anderson. He is also survived by two brothers and their families, John Yaggi of Alliance, and David Yaggi of Beloit.
Jim will also be missed by his faithful dog Copper was at his side constantly these last six months.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marjorie (Ewing) Yaggi, and several sets of grandparents.
Informal visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Tuesday and formal visitation from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park.
