Jane Evans went home to be with the Lord after a long and courageous battle with cancer at her home at 4:55 p.m. on June 23, 2007. Jane was the devoted wife of Carl for 48 years, loving mother of Carla and doting MiMi of her grandsons, Evan and Eric. She was born Nov. 28, 1938 in Adena, Ohio to Steve and Victoria (Rotkoski) Smith. A 1957 graduate of Adena High School, Mrs. Evans was the office manager for Dr. Robert Speer before retiring in 2000. A member of First Christian Church, Jane worked in the nursery, served as a Deaconess, belonged to the Membership Committee, and Congregational Care. She was a former coordinator with the Red Cross, volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and volunteered as Librarian at Liberty Elementary School. Jane was an avid camper and organized the Hall of Fames J's Camping Club. Survivors include her husband, Carl E. Evans, whom she married Aug. 15, 1959, one daughter, Carla (Scott) Davenport of Akron; two grandsons, Evan and Eric; one brother, William (Linda) Smith of Melbourne, Fla., one sister, Nancy Zamski of Columbus, Oh., and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church with Pastor Pam Bruno officiating. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Food Pantry, 1141 W.
