Janet Elaine Barber, age 72, of Alliance, passed away at 4:09 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Alliance Community Hospital.
She was born January 30, 1938, in Canton, Ohio, to Daniel and Ardith (Brown) Rhodes.
Janet was employed by the former Campro in Canton. She worked as Lexington Township Clerk for 20 years and also served as radio dispatcher for the Lexington Township Fire Department. A member and past president of the Ladies Elks Auxiliary No. 467, she also volunteered for the Alliance Area Senior Center, was honorary member of the Lexington Fire Department, member of the Stark County Trustees and Clerks Association, and the Alliance Republican Club.
Survivors include her husband, Lester J. Barber of Alliance whom she married March 16, 1973; daughter, Sherry (Steven) Edwards and step-daughter, Lynn (Jimmie) Davis; three grandchildren, Robert Dietz III, Kevin Meyers and Bette Jean Layman; five brothers; two sisters; many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two sons; three sisters; and two brothers.
A private memorial service will be held at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with the Rev. David Bloor of the Bolton United Methodist Church officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alliance Area Senior Center, 602 W. Vine St., Alliance, Ohio, 44601.
