Janice E. Mathias age 95 of Alliance, died at Bel-Air Care Center at 1:30 p.m. Thursday June 24, 2004.
Mrs. Mathias was born September 12, 1908 in Alliance, Ohio to Sherman P. and Ida Mae (King) Schlagel and was a lifelong resident.
She attended Alliance High School, and retired in 1932 from McCaskey Register Company after working in the Sales Department for 7 years.
She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, member of: A.A.R.P., Alliance Chapter, Alliance Country Club, Red Cross of Alliance, Alliance Woman's Club, and life member of B.P.O.Elks 467 Auxiliary.
She was a former member of the YWCA of Alliance, former Pink Lady at Alliance Community Hospital, volunteering 4500 hours for the auxiliary, and was a former member of WADGA (Women's Akron District Golf Association) and won their 1981 President's Award
Survivors include Anna Mae (Mathias) Clark of Fla., Nadine (Mathias) Scott of Alliance, Janice (Mathias) Syme of North Canton, Robert Mathias of Elyria, JoAnn Mathias Drake of Alliance, Jennifer Mathias Clunk of Damascus, and several great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter C. Mathias, whom she married Aug. 19, 1931, and who died July 1990, and one sister Helen Watson.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home with Pastor Frank Gross officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Alliance City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, P.O. 3830, Alliance, Ohio 44601.
