Esther Jean (Barkhurst) Ackley, age 82, of Alliance, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2009 at McCrea Manor.
She was born November 24, 1926 in Zanesville, Ohio to Harold R. and Lucy Margaret (Palmer) Barkhurst and was an Alliance resident since 1945.
A graduate of Philo High School Mrs. Ackley also attended Nurses Training.
She was a member of the First Christian Church for 50 years and was an Elder Emerita of the church, member of the Christian Women's Fellowship, and also a former member of the Lexington Grange.
Survivors include her son, Edwin J. (Haven) Ackley of Alliance and a sister, Lois (Kenneth) Denman of Zanesville; and two nephews, Ted and Mark Denman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Victor Ackley, whom she married June 3, 1945 and who died June 20, 2000; and a daughter, Valerie Gail Ackley who died in 1990.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alliance Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice 885 S. Sawburg Ave, Alliance, Ohio 44601, or to Multiple Sclerosis Society, Akron/Canton Chapter, 502 N. Main St. Akron, Ohio 44308.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the First Christian Church, 1141 W. Beech St. Alliance, Ohio with Pastor Pam Bruno and Sue DeHoff officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
